Belmont’s Local News Legacy Prepares for a New Chapter
BannerNews is preparing to return in 2026, bringing a familiar local name back to Belmont and the surrounding communities.
Originally established in 1888 as The Belmont Banner, the publication served as a local news source for generations before later becoming part of Banner News in 2014. After closing in 2022, the Banner is now being prepared for a new era — one focused on local news, community stories, business updates, events, and civic coverage across Belmont, Cramerton, Lowell, McAdenville, Mount Holly, Stanley, and nearby communities.
The relaunch comes at a time when local communities are growing quickly, but many residents still want a stronger, more consistent source for news close to home.
BannerNews will focus on the stories that shape everyday life in eastern Gaston County: new businesses opening downtown, city council updates, local events, school and nonprofit news, development projects, community traditions, historic features, and the people who make these towns distinct.
“Our goal is to bring back a trusted local voice in a modern format,” BannerNews said in a relaunch statement. “The name has history here, but the future of the publication will be built around what local readers need now: clear, accessible, community-focused coverage.”
The revived publication is expected to launch first as a digital news platform, with email updates and social media coverage helping readers stay informed throughout the week. Future plans may include subscriber-only coverage, community newsletters, advertising opportunities for local businesses, and expanded reporting by town.
Before launch, BannerNews is inviting residents, businesses, schools, nonprofits, and local organizations to submit story ideas, event announcements, historic photos, and community updates.
The official relaunch is planned for 2026.
Residents can follow BannerNews on social media and join the email list for launch updates, local headlines, and future announcements.
